The Giving Tree Campaign 2006

photo of the Guilderland Public Library Giving Tree

The Guilderland Library Foundation is once again reaching out to the residents of Guilderland to participate in our 2nd Annual Giving Tree Appeal.

Many of the programs and physical enhancements that make our Guilderland Public Library one of the best in the region are funded in part by contributions from generous individuals and families like you.

Contributions raised by the “2006 Giving Tree” fund drive will be used to finish the new Community Literary Garden, expand the library’s popular summer reading program, and help underwrite the Foundation’s Carol J. Hamblin Notable Author Speaker series. Any donations made can be dedicated for the sole support of an individual initiative

Please add a leaf to our “2006 Giving Tree” by making a tax-deductible donation to the Guilderland Library Foundation. A gift from you now will help ensure that the Guilderland Public Library continues to be a thriving community resource in the years ahead. Stop at the Library and watch our “Giving Tree” grow!

Community Literary Garden

The foundation is accepting tax deductible donations from individuals and businesses to help fund the completion of the garden. Donations will help fund the construction and landscaping of the garden, and such amenities as a fountain, trellis, outdoor lighting and sound system, teak chairs, tables and benches and an amphitheatre.
To find out more about donating to this project please contact Barbara Nichols Randall at 456-2400 ext. 13.

Since its inception, the Foundation has raised over $65,000 from government, corporate and individual sources, all of which has been given directly to the Library for its programs and improvements. Financial support was first raised through a farewell dinner for the retiring Carol J. Hamblin, the long-time director of the Library. These funds were used to establish the Carol J. Hamblin Notable Author Speaker Series, which brings distinguished authors to the Library to read from and discuss their literary works with the public. Funds have also been used to upgrade the Young Adult area in the Library, purchase a TTY machine for the use of the speech and hearing impaired, upgrading the meeting room sound system, creating a "literary" garden area and matching funds for upgrading the public restrooms for improved handicapped accessibility.

Current funding projects for the Foundation include raising funds for enhancing the Children's area, additional disability accessibility improvements, and outdoor beautification.

Contributions to fund the general operations of the Foundation would be greatly appreciated. Donation to named funds, that are dedicated to support a particular initiative can also be made.

Individual donations, planned gifts, stock transfers, foundation grants and corporate sponsorships are all welcome.

Major gifts to the Foundation will be acknowledged in a permanent and public display at the Library.

If you are interested in making a tax-deductible donation, either of cash or stocks, please do not hesitate to contact the Foundation at 456-2400 ext. 50, or by writing to the Guilderland Library Foundation, 2228 Western Avenue, Guilderland, NY 12084.

Volunteer opportunities also exist.
