Attention, Boomers: Here’s Your Chance To Be Enriched, Engaged, and Energized.
August 28, 2006

As you wrap up your career and peek around the corner to life after retirement, are you confronting “what’s next?” If so, “SmartWorks” could be for you.

SmartWorks is an innovative new volunteer program for informed, motivated and committed professional Capital Region residents who have retired or who are about to retire, and who are seeking opportunities for self-development and community involvement. Sponsored by Senior Services of Albany, it will be a national model that utilizes the growing population of “baby boomer” retirees in an effective and meaningful way. As the first of these post-WWII babies reach retirement age in 2006, the face of volunteerism must change to present these new retirees with challenges worthy of their skills and experience. SmartWorks is the engine of that change.

SmartWorks will enhance resources and provide opportunities for non-profit organizations – such as the Guilderland Public Library -- to expand services. This will be accomplished by matching SmartWorks volunteers to newly created leadership projects at various community agencies.

This is an outstanding opportunity for you to get involved in your community. It will enable you to use the skills and experience you have gained over a lifetime to help others. To receive an application, or get additional details, please contact Nikki Smith at 472-2714, or Monica Seeber at 465-3322.

All library programming is free (unless otherwise noted) and open to the public. The Guilderland Public Library is located at 2228 Western Avenue, Guilderland. For information, call 456-2400 or visit www.GuilderlandPublic.info.
