Guilderland Library Voted Top “Hotspot”

A poll of the Times Union Reader Network voted the Guilderland Public Library as one of their favorite sites to get free WiFi service.

While the poll, covered on the front page of the Sunday, February 11, Times Union, was noted to be in “no way complete,” it illustrates the popularity of the Library’s service and of WiFi in general.

WiFi is the nickname for the Wireless Fidelity, the Internet service that has gained acceptance in many environments as an alternative to hard-wired Local Area Networks (LANs). Many airports, hotels, coffee shops, casual eateries, and other places of public accommodation offer free, public access to WiFi networks so people can log onto the Internet to receive emails and access websites on the move. These locations are known as hotspots. The Library’s hotspot gives patrons this level of convenience throughout the building and even in the Literary Garden. Want to take advantage of this service? Bring your WiFi-enabled laptop computer to the Library, and logon to our hotspot.
