Grondahl is an award-winning staff writer for the Albany Times Union, where he has worked since 1984. His assignments for the paper have taken him from the Arctic to Antarctica, from Northern Ireland to Africa, and across the state, from Ground Zero on 9/11 to the Adirondack wilderness. Grondahl is the author of the critically acclaimed Mayor Corning: Albany Icon, Albany Enigma and That Place Called Home, the story of a Catholic nun in Albany who adopted and raised a child with AIDS.
His third book, I Rose Like a Rocket: The Political Education of Theodore Roosevelt was published by the Free Press in June and has received praise from Publishers Weekly and Kirkus Reviews. The book examines the early political career of the twenty-sixth president, who served in Albany as a maverick Assemblyman and reform governor who battled with machine politicians.
